GDPR

WHAT IS THE GDPR ?

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) (EU) 2016/679 is a regulation in EU law on data protection and privacy for all individuals within the European Union (EU) and the European Economic Area (EEA). AND IT WILL stay with us after Brexit, no matter happens.

WHAT DOES THE GDPR DO ?

The GDPR enforces data protection by design and by default. It means that any business process that handles your personal data must be designed and built with consideration of the principles of the GDPR and provide safeguards to protect your data.

WHAT IS PERSONAL DATA ?

Using an example of “John Brown”: by itself the name John Brown may not always be personal data because there are many individuals with that name. However, where the name is combined with other information (such as an address, a place of work, or a telephone number) this will usually be sufficient to clearly identify one individual and so becomes personal data.

HOW DOES THE SIBC HANDLE IT ?

The SIBC document “SIBC GDPR Policy Statement” explains exactly what we do, when and how. Please read it – it is on the noticeboard, and is available to download on our website.
